The General Services Administration must grant approval on some products in order for them to be used by certain government agencies and the US military branches. This is the government’s way of placing a “stamp” on a product which has been rigorously tested and approved. One of these products is called a Class 5 Security Container.
Merritt Industries gained GSA approval on its first group of security containers 6 months after being submitted in October of 2004. The approval process involves detailed engineering evaluation of drawing packages as well as physical security tests. The container must adhere to a strict, government mandated specification. All containers must withstand 30 man-minutes for covert entry, 20 man-minutes for surreptitious entry and 10 man-minute for forced entry. The containers must also withstand a 30 ft weighted drop test to ensure that the containers will not be compromised under extreme circumstances. Upon final approval, labels may be placed on the container indicating GSA approval of the product. To read more on this topic please visit
